Each year we travel to southern Crete, a small area near Plakias named Souda bay, to immerse ourselves in Tango and the beauty of the sea. After the day’s lessons and time spent relaxing on the magical beach, just in front of us, we dance every evening under the moonlight, on the expansive terraces of Voukelaris hotel, a family run Hotel with excellent food and warm hospitality, overlooking the endless blue and crystal clear water of Souda Bay. It is a truly magical experience and one you will cherish and look forward to year after year.
Plakias is located 36km south of Rethymno, in the fertile valley formed at the exit of Kotsifos river, which has water all year round. Plakias was a small village in the late 19th century, which in recent decades has transformed to a popular resort. Especially, during the 60s, the beach of Yialia, as the beachfront of the wider area is called, was a favorite destination for hippies. Now it’s a popular resort and a base for visiting the natural beauties of the region.

Relaxation with a splendid view of the Cretan sea. Voukelari studios & tavern is the ideal destination for everyone who is looking for a quiet and comfortable place to stay, near the famous beaches of Plakias. The village is surrounded by natural beauty. You can walk amongst rocks, olive trees, aromatic plants and pine trees with a constant view of the Sea of Crete.
